Superbowl Result: San Francisco Museum to Serve Kansas City Barbecue
The traditional Museum Bowl, which pits leading art museums in the cities represented by the Super Bowl teams, looks a little different this year, but the spirit lives on.
In past years the losing museum has loaned a significant work from its permanent collection, identified in advance, to the museum in the winning city. Last year the Philadelphia Museum of Art sent Thomas Eakins’s painting Sailing to the Nelson-Atkins Museum for temporary display.
However, a California law prevented the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA) from making such a bet. Instead, as the museum in the losing city, the director of SFMoMA will appear in a video wearing Kansas City-logoed merchandise and its restaurant will temporarily add Kansas City barbecue to the menu.
